Cwebe Nature Preserve

The Dwesa and Cwebe nature preserves are two small, side-by-side national parks of coastal and forest lands, separated by the Mbashe River.  Jim and I stayed two nights inside Cwebe Nature Preserve at the Haven Hotel.   Because you must sign in at the park's gated entrance, the only other people around were those few staying at the hotel.
...The only other beach goers were 3 cows!

Looking in both directions as far as you could see...
The first afternoon we arrived, Jim and I went down to the beach.  We walked for about two hours, and encountered only three other beach goers.

On Sunday, we hiked to a waterfall.  We started out walking, but turned back after 45 minutes of not finding the trail head near the hotel.  So, we decided to drive to another spot where the trail was better marked.  I really enjoyed that drive!  As Jim describes it, we drove down a road that was actually more  of a "tree tunnel."

There were some uncommon flowers, too.
Where's Waldo - I mean Jim:
Can you find him walking in this picture?
After finding the trail head, we started walking toward the waterfall - observing the butterflies and listening to the various birds as we went.  Although we knew in our heads that there were no large cats in the area, we both froze to a standstill when we heard calls that sounded just like a big cat's.  (It must have been some kind of bird, right?)

I was actually disappointed that we didn't see many birds.  But, I was amazed by the wildflowers!  We saw in their wild state many of the common flowers we buy in the store.  We saw wild hollyhocks, zinnias, both pink and purple morning glories, and impatiens.
Horse hazards near the third green!

The hotel itself was quiet, friendly.  Jim considered playing their par three course, but there were a few unexpected hazards!

Because there is no town anywhere near, if you stayed there, you were on the "full board" option - but it was really reasonable.  Room and three meals/day cost each of us less than $80/day.

Cwebe was a great "get away."
